Headteachers' Letter

Laura Penrose
Ms Lynsey Perkins

Dear Parents and carers,

We would like to welcome you to Petersfield Church of England Aided Primary School.

We are proud of our 2025 Ofsted inspection where we remain graded as GOOD in all areas.

We are particularly pleased with the section in the report ‘What it is like to attend this school’. This identifies that our school sits 'at the heart of the village communities' we serve.

Inspectors noted that 'pupils are able to fulfil the school vision to ‘live life to the full’' and as a result, 'pupils arrive with smiles on their faces' and 'they value the kind and welcoming environment created by staff' resulting in 'pupils feel safe and happy' at Petersfield.

Our current school roll is approximately 132 pupils, aged from four to eleven years old. Whilst the majority of our pupils come from the surrounding villages of Orwell, Arrington, Croydon, Tadlow, Whaddon and Wimpole, we are pleased to welcome pupils from the wider South Cambridgeshire area. As a result, our class structure varies each year according to the size of each year group cohort. We currently 2 classes in EYFS and Key Stage (KS) 1. We have 2 classes - year 3 and 4 - working together on the Lower KS2 curriculum and year 5 and 6, taught separately where possible - working together on the Upper KS2 curriculum.

We are proud to be leading a passionate and enthusiastic staff team who value a creative curriculum that encourages excellence, enjoyment, perseverance and the building of positive relationships. Our strong emphasis on teamwork, well-being and professional development continues to support the ongoing development of our curriculum. Please do visit the curriculum pages to find out more.

As well as providing fantastic social events, our Friends of Petersfield (FOPS) is highly successful in raising funds for Petersfield. Recent donations have enable us to purchase ICT equipment, music resources, school visits, a pantomime visit and reading books.

We firmly believe that a strong parent-partnership is essential as we work together to best meet the needs of each child. Therefore, as a school, we continue to update parents on current information and initiatives and to be available daily on the playground to liaise, help and provide pastoral support to all our pupils. We look forward to welcoming pupils, parents and visitors to our friendly school as you become part of our school community.

Yours faithfully,

Laura Penrose & Lynsey Perkins
