Climate Change

Schools are being encouraged to start a conversation about Climate Change with pupils. Climate Change has been on the Petersfield school agenda for a number of years. Previously, we were involved with a project with Cambridge University to support our children in understanding about this.

Our most recent Energy Efficiency Statement can be seen here:

Since this was assessed, we have committed significant funding to projects designed to significantly improve our school learning environment whilst also playing our part in addressing climate change.

We have now replaced our boiler and hot water system.

In Spring 2023, significant refurbishment work across the school included window replacements designed to improve our energy efficiency.

During the summer holidays 2022, our lighting was replaced with energy efficient lighting throughout the school.

We have recently updated our Eco-policy.

Climate change continues to be high on the Petersfield agenda. Our School Council are involved in this and we are pleased to have been invited by the Church of England to be 1 of 2 schools in the Diocese of Ely to complete a Heat Decarbonisation Plan.

Uniform Swop Shop. Second-hand uniform will be available for free at FOPS Swap Shop. This new initiative has the motto ‘give what you can, take what you need’ and aims to save parents money and time and also to reduce our carbon footprint. If every school child in the UK wore a second-hand uniform in September, we would save the equivalent annual energy use of over 20,000 homes or over 40,000 cars. Furthermore, a single t-shirt is estimated to take 2,700 litres of water to produce, equivalent to 3 years’ drinking water for an average adult. Look out for the friendly, pupil decorated, blue donations bin for donations. Please donate your unwanted uniform in the blue bin and visit the swap shop available regularly at events.
