Catch Up Funding
What was the Covid 'Catch-up' Premium?
In 2020, the Government said 'Children and young people across the country have experienced unprecedented disruption to their education as a result of coronavirus (COVID-19). Those from the most vulnerable and disadvantaged backgrounds will be among those hardest hit. The aggregate impact of lost time in education will be substantial. We know that we have the professional knowledge and expertise in the education system to ensure that children and young people recover and get back on track. The government has announced £1 billion of funding to support children and young people to catch up. This included a one-off universal £650 million catch-up premium for the 2020 to 2021 academic year to ensure that schools have the support they need to help all pupils make up for lost teaching time.'
Funding
Our School's initial allocation in 2020-2021 was calculated on a per pupil basis, providing us with funding based on the pupils in our school at the October census including all pupil in years reception through to year 6.
Our Vision for Recovery
Petersfield’s School Vision is that ‘God teaches us we are all equal, valued and unique. We are a small rural school with deeply held Christian Values which motivate and inspire us to provide a rich and diverse education. “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full” John 10:10’
We are committed to providing a rich and diverse education, including addressing all learning needs to develop each individual's full potential regardless of background, the barriers to learning or the impact of Covid.
The Covid-19 Support Guide for Schools – June 2020 – identified that:
• Every school will have been affected by Covid-19 differently and school leaders are best placed to understand the needs of their school communities.
• The right way to support pupils will differ between schools and must be informed by the professional judgement of teachers and school leaders.
• Children from disadvantaged backgrounds are likely to have been affected particularly severely by school closures and may need more support to return to school and settle back into school life.
• While the recommendations in this guide relate to all pupils, it is likely that some forms of support will be particularly beneficial to disadvantaged children.
• For many pupils, compensating for the negative impact of school closures will require a sustained response.
• It is also likely to be beneficial to consider how to align chosen approaches with Pupil Premium spending and broader school improvement priorities.
At Petersfield, the strategies chosen to support recovery closely aligned with, and in many cases further extend, the successful provision we already have in place to enable continued school improvement and implement our effective Pupil Premium Strategy.
Our Covid 'Catch Up' Recovery Strategy, which including an assessment of the initial impact is published below. From 2022, we have included our recovery premium spending information on the Pupil Premium page. More information can be found on our Pupil Premium Page.
School Led Tutoring
School Led Tutoring has been delivered by teachers from Petersfield in line with the funding received from 2020-2024. Individuals and groups have benefitted from targeted tuition to address gaps and misconceptions. As a school, we have been required to fund a significant part of the investment in this tutoring as the Government grant only covered a percentage of this cost.
