Welcome to Petersfield Church of England Aided Primary School
A very warm welcome to our school website. Jesus said “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full”. As a Church of England Aided Primary School, our ambitious school vision of ‘Live Life to the Full’ motivates us in all we do to enable all children and adults in our school community to flourish. Our website is designed to give you a window into our school life. Want to find out more about the great place that Petersfield is to learn together? If so, we look forward to welcoming you into Petersfield soon.
Petersfield Church of England (Aided) Primary School is a small, rural school serving families from within the parish boundaries of Orwell, Arrington, Croydon, Tadlow, Whaddon and Wimpole and from many other locations outside of our school catchment. Our vision inspires us to 'Live life to the full'. We are committed to ensuring each pupil thrives from their own individual starting point by providing a high quality education within a Christian context and we work hard to create a caring environment, both inside the classroom and out. Motivated by our Christian values of friendship, trust, creativity, peace and love, we provide a rich and diverse education focusing on excellence, enjoyment, perseverance and building relationships to support and inspire our pupils throughout this stage of their lifelong learning journey.
We are very proud of our 2025 Ofsted inspection report which confirms that we have taken effective action to maintain the standards identified at the previous inspection where we were graded GOOD in all areas. The report states ‘Pupils feel safe and happy’ and that ‘Staff enjoy working at the school. Children’s behaviour is very good: ‘They move around the school safely and considerately’ and ‘This makes classrooms calm, orderly and cohesive.’ The inspectors noted that the children showed their clear enjoyment, ‘living life to the full’, and showed that the school values guide them in their daily lives. It is particularly pleasing that the inspectors saw our values in practice through the children’s respect and kindness towards each other. Good learning behaviours were noted by the inspectors. When in school, the inspectors commented on the positive relationships between adults and children as well as the children towards one another. Significant progress was noted in English and Maths and the inspectors observed that we have implemented a new, exciting curriculum which is ‘broad and ambitious’. Our staff have worked tirelessly to make the school what it is and we could not have received this outcome without their amazing effort and dedication to training. We are also very pleased that Leadership and Management was identified as a particular strength – as a school we are clear about our next steps in our curriculum journey.
We were also delighted to welcome Dr Simon Hughes on behalf of the Diocese of Ely to review how our vision of 'Living Life to the Full' is central to all we do at Petersfield. He particularly noted the positive impact of our vision on the loving and caring way children and adults work together and our distinctively Christian curriculum that is thoughtfully structured and empowering. Our most recent SIAMS report (September 2023) highlighted that we are successful in living up to our foundation as a Church school with some of the many strengths being that:
* the school is confident and courageous in living out its Christian vision for all to live life to the full.
* leaders, including governors, make bold decisions which ensure its impact is felt.
* committed leaders, including governors and staff know and understand the community the school serves and work to ensure that pupils and their families are nurtured and supported
* the inclusive curriculum is designed so that all pupils can access learning.
We very much look forward to welcoming you to Petersfield where, as partners in learning together, we strive to provide the very best for each individual.
Laura Penrose & Lynsey Perkins, Co-Headteachers.
